What's Lupus?

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the normal human immune system overreacts and attacks the body's healthy tissue. Symptoms range from fatigue, joint pain and rash to organ failure. It comes in several forms, the most common and serious is SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSIS or SLE.
No universal cause is known, there can be genetic, environmental or hormonal factors. Treatment is a combination of medications used to treat varying symptoms and dependant on severity. It is usually a combination of immune suppressants, anti rheumatics, corticoid steroids and pain relief.
Often very misunderstood, symptoms are not always visible to others but is debilitating and in rare cases life threatening.
Lupus develops within the own body's immune system, it can not 'caught' nor is there currently a cure.
Lupus can attack the brain, heart, lungs and most commonly the kidneys.
With me it was the kidneys........
